We have applied and have been successfully audited for GOTS in 2018, but then found out that GOTS can only certify us if we would lower the TENCEL Modal composition to 10%, which was not an option because the Kushel Towels softness comes from TENCEL Modal, a fiber made from wood.
We still buy GOTS grade organic Cotton and manufacture in a GOTS certified factory, but we are not allowed to use the certification on the product because a GOTS certified home interior product has to be made from minimum 90% cotton. (we use 70% organic cotton and 30% TENCEL Modal).
Our product is not GOTS certified, but it is made by companies that are certified by the GOT Standard.
All Kushel products are OEKO-Tex 100 compliant and the company that is producing the Kushel is in the process of being certified STeP by Oeko-Tex, one of the most challenging environmental certifications to hold.
Our manufacturer is based in Portugal and all dyes and chemicals used in the process are REACH compliant.
REACH is a regulation of the European Union, adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, while enhancing the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry.
In principle, REACH applies to all chemical substances; not only those used in industrial processes but also in our day-to-day lives, for example in articles such as clothes, furniture and electrical appliances. Therefore, the regulation has an impact on most companies across the EU. (Source)
We use vegan reactive dyes and all wastewater is cleared on site.
